1. Overview
This page explains how myNWMES uses cookies and browser storage technologies. We only store information that is strictly necessary for the secure and reliable operation of this portal.
myNWMES does not use advertising cookies, marketing trackers, or third-party tracking pixels. No cookie consent banner is needed because all cookies and storage used are strictly necessary for service delivery.
2. HTTP Cookies
The website uses the following HTTP cookie:
-
__session: A secure, first-party cookie used by Firebase Hosting to transmit authenticated session credentials to the application backend (Cloud Functions).
Purpose: Essential session authentication and access control.
Duration: Ephemeral browser session duration; expires when the session ends or sign-out occurs.
3. Client-Side Authentication Storage
To keep you signed in securely across page navigation without prompting for passcodes repeatedly, the application uses local browser storage:
-
Firebase Authentication (local storage / IndexedDB): Managed directly by the Google Firebase Authentication SDK to persist your secure authentication token on your device.
Purpose: Essential sign-in state management.
Provider: Google Firebase.
4. Security & Abuse Prevention
To protect member accounts and society services from automated attacks and abuse:
-
Firebase App Check & reCAPTCHA Enterprise: Ephemeral security tokens are used to verify that requests originate from a legitimate, verified browser instance rather than automated bots.
Purpose: Essential security and fraud prevention.
Provider: Google Cloud.
5. Ephemeral Session Storage
The portal stores temporary, non-persistent data in your browser’s sessionStorage for user interface performance and reliability. This information remains only in your active browser tab and is cleared when the tab or window is closed:
- mynwmes_nav_context_cache: Caches your verified display name and authorized navigation sections (such as Assessor or Card Administration links) for up to 10 minutes to eliminate visual layout flickering during navigation.
- mynwmes_dashboard_cache: Temporarily holds dashboard content during an active session to make returning to the home screen instant and responsive.
- nwmes-competency-editor-save: Crash-recovery buffer used only within the administrative competency editor to preserve unsaved form edits if connection is briefly lost.
6. Managing Storage in Your Browser
You can clear cookies and site data at any time through your browser settings. Please note that clearing essential cookies or local storage will sign you out of myNWMES.
For more details on how we handle personal data, please see our Privacy Notice.
